I am a public school educator in Virginia Beach and have been for the past 22 years. My first 11 years were spent teacher students Geometry and various Computer Exploratory elective classes. The second 11 have been spent as a Computer Resource Specialist, and now an ITS or Instructional Technology Specialist for Landstown Middle School. My primary roles are to promote the integration of technology into classrooms, manage, train, and coach faculty and students in the use of technology and to be my school's leader in digital literacy. I genuinely love my job because it affords me the opportunity to work with the entire student-body and the entire staff. Finding ways teachers can use technology to make learning effective, fun, engaging and efficient is my passion, but it's also a big challenge.
I grew up in rural upstate NewYork during the 70s and 80s. I remember when most people didn't own a calculator and computers used floppy disks and cassette tapes. I went to SUNY Cortland and graduated with a Secondary Education Mathematics degree with a minor in Computer Applications. I was hired the following fall and so began my immersion into a life of education involving technology.
